Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital (SiPH), a part of the esteemed Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, has proudly announced a major upgrade to its Pathology Information System (PIS), utilizing the latest technologies and artificial intelligence. In collaboration with IBM, the hospital has successfully integrated laboratory workflows, image scanning, and centralized data management into a unified system. This transformation is set to revolutionize cancer diagnosis and pave the way for future innovations in diagnostic medicine.
The new PIS, developed by IBM’s Supply Chain Industry 4.0 team in Singapore, simplifies data entry through smart forms and speech-to-text AI, streamlining the capture of tissue sample data and integrating it with high-resolution images from slide scanners. These images are then analyzed using AI algorithms, benefiting from SiPH’s expertise and IBM’s powerful Power10 platform. This enables pathologists to access real-time data, making it easier to diagnose potential cancer cases quickly and accurately.
Currently being tested for prostate cancer, the system automates much of the workflow, including AI-powered analysis of slide images. By automatically processing and returning diagnostic results, it allows pathologists to focus on the more complex cases, greatly improving both the speed and accuracy of cancer diagnosis.
Dr. Pornsuk Cheunsuchon, Director of SiPH’s Digital Pathology Center, commented, “This partnership with IBM is a crucial step in enhancing clinical care, not just in Thailand but across the ASEAN region. The transformation of our pathology workflows and the integration of advanced AI will ultimately lead to more accurate cancer diagnoses, benefiting patients throughout our region. This achievement also marks a significant leap in computational pathology, paving the way for AI-powered diagnostic systems to play a key role in SiPH’s future healthcare initiatives.”
Anothai Wettayakorn, Managing Director of IBM Thailand, added, “We are proud to support SiPH with platforms designed to handle AI workloads, automate workflows, and integrate pathology systems. Thanks to IBM Power10’s 99.9999% availability and its built-in AI acceleration capabilities, SiPH is able to enhance diagnostic accuracy while safeguarding patient data with advanced security and encryption measures.”
This collaboration highlights the growing importance of innovative technologies in healthcare, improving the speed, accuracy, and transparency of medical diagnoses, and ultimately ensuring better care for patients across Thailand and ASEAN.
